Humans of Flesh and Blood TCG: The Tall Timmy

I formally played Magic The Gathering when I was a kid. I then had a long hiatus for about sixteen years. I got back into it in my mid to late twenties. Then stopped playing actively around the end 2018.

I heard a few things about Flesh and Blood TCG when it launched in 2019. On a couple of occasions, I had spoken to my local games store about it, they weren’t very favourable on it. Then, one day in 2021, I saw the social media post of the OP play system. I looked at that, along with the prizing structure and straight away, I thought to myself: "This is a real game". So I looked up some YouTube videos, a couple of from the Tolarian Academy, a couple James White interviews and some Rudy videos. After that, I joined some Facebook groups and the rest was history. I was playing in armouries every day of the week for the first couple of weeks. I originally started playing with Boltyn and then after the last skirmish season I switched to Rhinar and am really enjoying it.

What is a Timmy?

It's very hard to define a Timmy, you can’t really box them in. A Timmy is like an excited puppy you know: Quite naïve, quite gullible. They buy cards at the highest prices and then sell them at the lowest. They try and play meta decks, but they don’t know how to pilot them. They always think they’re better than what they are and always blame variants and luck. That’s essentially what a Timmy is and they’re fun, they’re generally fun.

Friends of mine used to joke around and call me a complete Timmy and a fool when I played magic. Just because of the way I was and the decks I used to play. I’m tall, and you know, I am a Timmy of some sort’s and the name rolls off the tongue. I thought that was a good name and I didn’t think anyone else out there was really leaning into that sort of Timmy thing. Rudy has his own spiel on it, but I think it’s a bit deeper than that. Also, I say this not sarcastically, I think any healthy TCG game needs an army of Timmys behind it. They’re the real numbers, they’re the people that show up to all of the events, make your event go from a couple of hundred to five thousand.
